Muslim Women’s Network UK submitted written evidence to the Home Affairs Committee’s inquiry into Combatting New Forms of Extremism, highlighting the growing threat of far-right extremism, particularly among young people, and the role of social media platforms in spreading hate and radicalising youth. We stressed that anti-Muslim rhetoric is increasingly normalised in politics and media, undermining trust in counter-extremism strategies like Prevent, which is seen as disproportionately targeting Muslims while overlooking right-wing threats. We called for reforms to Prevent, stronger tech regulation, and community-led, trauma-informed interventions, especially in light of new challenges such as AI-generated disinformation and coordinated online hate networks.
