Female Entrepreneurship Inquiry (Women and Equalities Committee)
March 2025
| Muslim Women's Network UK have submitted written evidence to the Women and Equalities CommitteeFemale entrepreneurship Inquiry. The key points raised include the significant barriers faced by women, particularly those from ethnic minority backgrounds, in starting and growing businesses in the UK. These barriers include limited access to finance, with women-led businesses receiving a disproportionately small share of venture capital, and compounded bias due to both gender and racial stereotypes. The lack of access to networks, mentorship, and support structures, especially for Muslim women wearing the hijab, further hampers their entrepreneurial potential. The submission also highlighted the need for more targeted financial support, such as the Women in Innovation Fund, and the importance of reducing biases in investment decisions. Additionally, the committee was urged to promote policies that encourage female investors and create more inclusive business networks to help women, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, succeed in high-growth sector. | |
