Funding for Tackling VAWG (Women and Equalities Committee))
April 2025
| Muslim Women’s Network UK submitted written evidence to the Women and Equalities Committee’s Inquiry into Funding for Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). The submission highlighted how current funding models disadvantage smaller, by-and-for charities , particularly those led by and for Muslim women. These charities provide vital, culturally sensitive support but struggle to meet rigid criteria that favour larger, mainstream services. Key points raised include the need for survivor-defined and culturally relevant outcomes, long-term and unrestricted funding, and genuine, equitable partnerships. MWNUK also emphasised the importance of addressing systemic bias in funding decisions and ensuring that by and for led charities have access to resources that reflect their impact and community reach. | |
