VAWG Experiences of Minority Women in Britain (UN VAWG Rapporteur UK Visit)

On the 18th February 2024, Muslim Women's Network UK hosted a roundtable with the Ms Reem Alsalem, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls. The meeting was held in Birmingham and attended by other local groups working with minority ethnic women and girls. Some of the issues raised were also set out in the written submission which included: domestic homicide rates of minority ethnic women, honour based abuse, spiritual abuse. shariah divorce used as a method of coercive control, hate crime and funding for VAWG minoritised specialist organisations.
