COVID-19 Impact on People with Protected Characteristics (Women & Equalities)
In April 2020, MWNUK responded to the Women’s Equalities Committee on its inquiry investigating the impact of COVID-19 on people with protected characteristics.
Key issues highlighted included:
- Despite rise in domestic abuse, Muslim women were finding it harder to report and ask for help
- lack of safe affordable and temporary accommodation
- Risk of rise in forced marriage, honour based abuse and FGM
- Economic situation being exacerbated due to them already being in lower paid jobs
- Lack of counselling services and risks of numerous pop up listening services
