Roukagia Afan

APPG Officer

Roukagia is a Manchester based LLM student of Syrian and Ukrainian heritage.

She is passionate about tackling Islamophobia and creating more inclusive environments which champion women and young people from global majority backgrounds. For many years, she has been pursuing her passion of social justice and change with youth and women’s NGOs in the city and nationwide.

More recently, upon completing a Fellowship with the Virgin Money Foundation, Roukagia founded the initiative ‘Muslim Northern Women’. Muslim Northern Women is a student-led society at the University of Manchester which works to dismantle Islamophobia towards Muslim women and girls.

Roukagia is excited to be undertaking work as the APPG Officer with MWNUK and hopes to address the challenges that Muslim Women face in the UK in order to create legislative and systemic changes which provide solutions to these problems.
