So Called Honour Based Abuse Inquiry (Women and Equalities Committee)

MWNUK responded to the call for evidence from the Women and Equalities Committee which seeks to understand more about the nature and prevalence of abuse committed to protect or defend the so-called honour of an individual, family or community. Some of the recommendations made by MWNUK include: inquiry:

Recommending honour as an aggravating factor in sentencing
Addressing failings in Policing when recording Honour Based Abuse
The urgent need for Police forces to recognise links between revenge porn and HBA
Strengthen the current HBA assessment tool
The government should produce its own tool with wide consultation that is disseminated to police forces for a more consistent approach
