Mental Health and Wellbeing Plan Written Evidence (DHSC)
July 2022
The government has committed to develop a new cross-government, 10-year plan for mental health and wellbeing for England to support this objective. MWNUK responded to the call for evidence which seeks views on what we can do to improve everyone’s mental health and wellbeing. Some of the recommendations include: • Mental health awareness workshops and education to challenge stigma • A more effective approach to develop workshops tailored for racialised minority groups and communities of faith that approaches mental health education in nuanced ways • Access to faith and culturally sensitive therapeutic interventions early in which counsellors combine Western psychological theory and practice with their knowledge of both cultural and Islamic precepts and norms • Funding for specialist services that provide counselling and wellbeing activities this is essential to expand and meet increasing demand of these communities • GPs to be better informed of local community services when making counselling referrals • Empowerment of women from racialised minority groups to advocate for their healthcare needs by educating them on how to seek help, what to expect when seeking help, what to do when they feel help is insufficient and different avenues of support. This consultation response was submitted in July 2022.
