Letter sent to Lord Chancellor Michael Gove MP urging him to consider legislative changes to prevent discrimination against Muslim women in marriage and divorce - particularly making civil marriages compulsory before religious marriages can take place and amending the Divorce (Religious Marriages) Act 2002 so that a judge can also withhold finalising the civil divorce until a Muslim woman receives her religious divorce from the husband (as the current law only applies to Jewish women. | |
