MWNUK letter to the Ministry of Justice in light of the divorce reforms consultation urging the Ministry of Justice to make the legislative changes that we have proposed, particularly making civil marriages compulsory before religious marriages can take place and amending the Divorce (Religious Marriages) Act 2002 so that a judge can also withhold finalising the civil divorce until a Muslim woman receives her religious divorce from the husband (as the current law only applies to Jewish women.
