Job Title: Community Outreach Worker
Salary: £20 253 (pro rata) – (N.B. full working week is 37 hours)
Hours: Part-time hours: 15 hours / 2 days per week
Location: Manchester
Job Type: Contract - 12 months

About Us:
We are an independent national network and work to improve social justice and equality for Muslim women and girls.  We have a membership of more than 700 individuals and organisations with a collective reach of tens of thousands of Muslim women. Our membership also includes women of other faiths and men who support our work. 

We find out about the experiences of Muslim women and girls through research and helpline enquiries from the MWN Helpline. We identify policy and practice gaps and use this information to inform decision makers in government (including at Ministerial level) and other public bodies. Our knowledge about the issues faced by Muslim women and girls also inform our community campaigns. We also develop resources and training so women and girls are better informed about their rights and how to access support and help. 

About the Role:
MWNUK are looking for a dynamic and locally well-connected Community Outreach Worker in the Manchester area who will establish connections to strategic local stakeholders, in order to raise awareness of issues affecting Muslim women by disseminating MWNUK's resource packs to Muslim female activists and third sector groups. These packs contain information on a range of issues such as discrimination, domestic violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, honour-based violence, women’s rights in Islam, mental health etc. The pack also contains information on campaigning, advocacy and our bespoke helpline - the MWN Helpline.

Main Responsibilities
  • Identifying Muslim female activists and third sector groups in the region who would benefit from using our resource packs
  • Putting together the information packs
  • Desktop research
  • Contacting activists / third sector groups via telephone, meeting them to disseminate packs and also advising on how to make best use of them e.g. to cascade the information further
  • Following up with activists and groups and how the information packs have been used
  • Maintaining accurate records of all contacts made and how the packs have been used
  • Providing data from the project to the Executive Director every month

Person Specification
  • Committed to the ethos and principles of MWNUK 
  • Ability to work independently and remotely without supervision
  • Understanding and knowledge of the Voluntary and Community Sector
  • Experience of working with BAMER women / organisations, particularly those from South Asian and Muslim communities
  • Expected to have some local knowledge and contacts of potential activists and groups we can connect with
  • Knowledge of key issues such as domestic violence, forced marriage, honour-based violence, discrimination etc.
  • Willing to travel and able to drive, with access to a car - mileage will be paid
  • Excellent IT skills (word processing, databases, spread sheets and outlook)
  • High level of professionalism when dealing with internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Proactive, keen and committed individual who is able to use own initiative
  • Experience of project organisation and delivery
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Understanding and adhering to policies e.g. confidentiality, data protection and maintaining professional boundaries
